Friday rally honors the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., playing a
recording of his final speech, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop.”

Forty years ago, the iconic Civil Rights champion and leader, Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr., was slain by an assassin’s bullet in Memphis, Tennesee.
He had traveled to Memphis to support striking sanitation workers.

“Today we mourn the death of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who’s
words and action have inspired generations to work for a more just, and a
more peaceful world,” said William Seaman, a volunteer with PPRC. “We mourn
the great loss to our country and to the world, but we affirm his life’s
work and rededicate ourselves to the continuing struggle to realize his
dream.”

The regular 5:00 PM Friday rally and march at Pioneer Courthouse Square will
play the speech that Dr. King gave the night before he was killed in
Memphis, Tennesee, on April 4th, 1968, the “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop”
sermon.
