[This is a fundraiser sponsored by NORPAC, an Israel Lobby Political Action Committee, for Wyden, raising money from large donors in New York because Wyden is a "True Friend of Israel" and not in the good sense of word in terms of supporting a sustainable JUST resolution to the conflict, but in the traditional hardline pro-Israel sense.]

"A True Friend of Israel"

 Senator Ron Wyden

Senator Wyden was born in Wichita, Kansas to Edith Rosenow and Peter H. Wyden, both of whom had fled Nazi Germany a few years earlier. Wyden received his B.A. from Stanford University and his J.D. degree from the University of Oregon School of Law.
Wyden's home is in Portland, OR. He has two grown children, Adam and Lilly, as well as two toddlers, Ava Rose and William Peter. He and his wife, Nancy  (née Bass), the owner of New York's Strand Bookstore, were married in 2005, in a ceremony performed by Rabbi Ariel Stone of Portland.

Senator Wyden has been a strong and vocal supporter of Israel. Even though he comes from a state with a minimal number of Jewish families, he can always be counted on to assure the continued survival of Israel.

Senator Wyden has consistently supported the US commitment to Israel's security. He recently co-sponsored a resolution to re-affirm the Senate's commitment to a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on the establishment of two states, Israel and Palestine.  The resolution also re-affirmed the Senate's commitment to Israel's security.  Senator Wyden also supported the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act of 2006. This legislation was designed to help support a peaceful, two-state solution to end the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. The bill promotes the rule of law, democracy and good governance in institutions and territories controlled by the Palestinian Authority.  The bill also urges members of the international community to avoid contact with and refrain from financially supporting the terrorist organization Hamas until it agrees to recognize Israel, and renounce terrorism.

Since Iran is the greatest conventional threat to Israel and US interests in the Middle East, Senator Wyden has fought to prevent Iran from supporting terrorism and acquiring nuclear weapons. He voted for the Iranian Freedom Support Act, which imposed a number of sanctions on Iran aimed at denying Iran's ability to support acts of international terrorism and fund the development and acquisition of weapons of mass destruction.  The Act also declared that it should be U.S. policy to support efforts by the Iranian people to exercise self-determination over their country's form of government.

Last month, Senator Wyden reiterated that   Hamas agree to an immediate, verifiable and enforceable end  to their missile attacks on Israeli territory. He stated that these terrorists have launched unguided warheads with no legitimate military targets.  Hamas  has failed to exercise the most fundamental responsibilities that separate a legitimate sovereign power from a terrorist gang.  Hamas has an unambiguous responsibility to prevent rockets from being fired from lands under its control. Instead, Hamas has aided and abetted these lethal attacks.

Senator Wyden was elected to U.S. House of Representatives in 1980. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996 and has served consecutively ever since.
