The Freedom Theater

Through the Freedom Theatre, the children of Jenin refugee camp have been able to live another reality than the violence they normally endure.

The theatre's aim, through art and culture, is to help the children face the trauma they’ve been living since during the 2002 Israeli incursions. Jenin Refugee Camp children are largely deprived of a normal childhood; this is why the Freedom Theatre provides them a stage where they can develop the skills, self-knowledge and confidence which empowers them to challenge their present realities.

Mustafa Steti describes to AIC how the Theatre helped the children face their trauma.

The US Administration, the American Jewish Community and the Middle East Peace Negotiations

On Tuesday, 22 September 2009, I spoke with Professor Ira Chernus about the Obama administration's latest moves regarding the Israeli/Palestinian situation. We also discussed the condition and importance of the anti-occupation movement in the United States, especially the Jewish American “peace movement,” and their work to create a platform of popular support on which president Obama can gain more freedom to put real pressure on the parties towards a negotiated settlement.

Ira is a Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he has been teaching for over 30 years, as well as being active in the peace and anti-occupation movements. The author of several books, he writes extensively on the Palestinian/Israeli situation and his writings have appeared in many newspapers and online publications.
